The Mercury Bay Golf Club is a fine 18 hole facility located on the southern outskirts of Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula. The course is quiet and picturesque, set amongst fine specimens of native trees which are inhabited by varied bird species. The par 71 course is well laid out with doglegs in both directions and two main creeks as water hazards. The greens are among the best in the area, and the fairways are normally greener than most.
Founded in 1931, the club has an enthusiatic membership who are happy to greet visitors to the many club events held each week. Complementary lessons are provided for beginning golfers.
Mercury Bay was named by Captain Cook when he arrived for an observation of the transition of the planet Mercury in 1769. Mercury Bay is famous for its many beautiful beaches, as well as great fishing and boating.
